Dell PowerEdge R200

A new server has been delivered. This one is not for the main company I'm working for (www.juri.be) but for an other one (www.ralco.be). Nice pice of hardware, but dvd/cd drive and harddrive are sata. Debian Etch doesn't support this OOB. So I had to google.

1,5 sec later, I found this blogentry: http://bart.noordervliet.net/archive/11 and the anwser was given by a reply on the blog. So I downloaded the ISO, burned it and booted it. All without problems.

So If you want to install debian etch on a sata system, check this site:

I had a similar problem, tried first debian testing build but the kernel was still too old for my chipset. In the end I just used an ubuntu server edition (it looks, feels and is debian) and from now on my server runs ubuntu :)

Well, It seems that the Power Edge R200 is very popular server for linux users.

The first thing I wanted to do, was getting ubuntu server edition, but than I just googled and found the custom ISO with the newer kernel backported into etch.

I'll stay in debian for servers, but I'm using ubuntu as desktop distro.

PS: I visited your blog, seems blicbox is one of your top links. We really have to get back on track with that website, but time is not on our site ;-)

I think the R200 is good value for money. Does it have Hot swap HD's?
I might switch to Ubuntu Server to, testing 8.04 right now!
